Abstract Painting Class Introduces Students to New Techniques

On Saturday, I led a class in Abstract Painting techniques at The Artisans Village Gallery in Eatonton, Georgia. What a great time we had!

I want to say thank you to everyone who joined in the class. We had such a good time learning how to apply abstract art techniques with great effect to enhance realistic and impressionistic paintings.

We began with an experiment in monochrome to learn more about layering color and using non-traditional tools to apply paint to canvas - or to take it away. Working from inspirational imagery, each student approached the new painting from a unique perspective. Here you can see the in-progress works as we worked with texture and application of color. I am so impressed by the work that they were able to create in just a few short hours.

Artist Betsy Jenniges shared her finished piece (maybe?) with me the following day. A realistic painter, Betsy said of the new techniques, β€œFor me, very liberating to get loose!”

Stay tuned for details of my next class at the gallery! For more information, visit The Artisans Village Gallery website.
