Coffee Shops to Try in NYC

Plan extra time to shop the vintage boutiques nearby.

Though Starbucks may be on every corner (and I do love my venti nonfat latte), New York City is filled with delightful coffee shops, each with a personality of their own.

Great reading deserves a great cup of coffee.

Great reading deserves a great cup of coffee.

Here are just a few of my favorites from this recent trip.

Tucked onto a quiet street in SoHo, The Cupping Room Cafe at 359 W. Broadway between Broome and Grand Streets offers fresh baked goods, casual meals, and of course, delicious coffee, and spiced cider. Casual, laid back, and comfortable, it’s a nice place to catch up with friends. And here’s a bonus: just next door you’ll find boutiques with vintage Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

If you happen to be over in Brooklyn, you might want to pay a visit to Black Forest Brooklyn at 733 Fulton Street. Hailed as a “German Indoor Biergarten and Kaffeehaus,” the space boasts family style seating, mile high cakes and pies, and really delicious coffee. Outdoor seating looks like a great place to celebrate the warm weather.

And if you find yourself at 327 Park Avenue amid the shoppers and tourists and business people dashing from meeting to meeting, check out Gregory’s. It’s stylish and fun, and they invite you to “see coffee differently.”

So who makes the best cup in the city? I only have a few thousand more coffee shops to try before I can share the answer to that timeless question.
