Whether you know this colorful row of Victorian homes by sight or by nickname, any visit to San Francisco won’t be complete without seeing these famed Painted Ladies in person. For the single best view of San Francisco where history plays against modern progress, pack a picnic basket and take a trip to Alamo Square.
Here in the center of a residential area, photographers, joggers, dog-walkers and happy kids co-mingle while picnic lovers spread their blankets to take in the view.
My suggestion: stop by the Ferry Building Marketplace to load your picnic basket with charcuterie from Boccalone, fresh cheese from Cowgirl Creamery and fruit from Farm Fresh to You, then head up to Alamo Square to enjoy a mid-city picnic in style.
And don’t forget your camera and windbreaker!
