In the historic N. Mississippi Avenue district of Portland, Casa Naranja is the neighborhood go-to restaurant for casual drinks, small plates and friendly atmosphere. With a moody intimate interior for patrons wanting quieter moments, this Craftsman casa also offers a venue for the more free-spirited crowd. Its patio was recently named Portland’s best. Perhaps the favored seat in the house is one of the many hammocks that invite long, lingering happy hours by the outdoor fireplace on cooler evenings.
Portlander Chris Broderick brought Casa Naranja to life three years ago after undertaking the building’s conversion. “I wanted to create a restaurant with cocktails and light bites, and that naturally evolved into tapas,” Broderick says.
Mediterranean flavors create a harmonious balance with the Pacific Northwest’s fresh seafood, smoked meats and farm-fresh vegetables. As chef David explained, “Everything here is prepared with love.” Sample the hand-cut yam fries – crispy outside, sweet and tender inside, perfectly balanced by the zing of a creamy lemon cayenne aioli.
For a refreshing twist on a summer cocktail, try one of the house-infused liquors or specialty cocktails.
