Drive through the quiet streets of Hickory, North Carolina, where grand Victorian homes sit perched on tree-lined streets and signs of good clean family living are everywhere. It’s the perfect kind of American town, with plenty of picturesque churches and schools, and a vibe that says it would make a great home.
I joined a new friend for lunch at Youssef 242, a stylish upscale restaurant that delivers both refined ambiance and inventive culinary creations. With an award-winning wine list, Youssef 242 is a favored destination for business lunches and special celebrations.
Owner Youssef believes in sourcing fresh from the market, deriving his inspiration from seasonal, local produce. During my visit, I enjoyed a roasted beet salad with mandarin oranges and broccoli florets in a creamy yogurt dressing. Topped with toasted sunflower seeds, the salad was rich with vivid colors and flavors.
Perhaps my favorite dish of the day was the edamame succotash. Using fresh corn and shelled edamame, Youssef combines these with bits of red onion, red pepper, and bacon in a slightly sweet vinaigrette. My impression on this updated Southern classic side dish? Absolutely perfect for a summer menu.
Thank you, Rachael, for suggesting this gem of a restaurant!
